I took a run on Ventnor City beach and stopped enjoy the sounds of nature. Ocean waves cleanse my feet as they crash on grey shore- somber but enlivening. The air is fogged enough that I can see only my immediate surroundings- somehow the world seems small among this vast breath of landing. There is a sense of openness yet I let go of my imagination, let it float into the white sky and come back to me later. Now is a moment of acceptance, for I am small in this world of perpetual evolution. But I still make my contributions- every day exploring, finding new sounds and nature to take on a life of their own. For me, it's expressed through music... We all have our own ways of speaking in this earth of eternal discovery. Surely it's easy to become complacent in routines- never wanting to step out of the box, finding comfort in the spirit of home. But I am a youthful creature- always seeking to learn, knowing that there's so much more out there than we could ever discover in one place. So I practice my balance- music, family, friends, relationships, health and well being, traveling... Among all of it there is one common thing: this land we stand on, this air we breathe. I choose to explore the outlands, experience a variety of scents, and keep that place of home within. May we always move forward in this journey of life but constantly remind ourselves of this... This feeling of being. Just be.

Transformation
See the previous blog to make this connection... how interesting that in my conversation with Eric today he spoke about transition. Here is yet another symbol of the butterfly...
"The Butterfly
The butterfly is the symbol of metamorphosis and transformation.
The symbol of new life, letting go of old cycles and finding your true inner expression.
The butterfly calls you to expand your awareness, spread your wings and call forth your inner joy.
Let go of limitations, and free yourself to express your own beauty within.
It is the time of spiritual transitions. Symbolic of moving from one phase of life to the next reaching higher, reaching outward, leaving the safety of the cocoon and finding your own place among the flowers of life.
Allowing the wind to carry you forward to your goals and dreams. A time of self-discovery rebirth. The butterfly shows you the beauty within.
Go forth with joy.
Affirmation:
I recognize my true beauty within,
I value and cherish all that I am.
I have the power to transform my life.To experience true joy. "

Cohesiveness in Connection
I feel the cohesiveness of connection more than ever today. Yesterday I spent an hour in the card isle at CVS. There were a few people I wanted to write to- some who I wanted to thank, another to share a thoughtful moment with, and another to send love and healing energy to a friend... his father recently passed away. During this time I had strong, emotional thoughts about my good friend Eric. We hadn't spoken in a while, but I wanted to write him and let him know he was in my thoughts. After reading through many cards trying to find the right one, a butterfly caught my eye on a front cover. I immediately thought of him and my northeast mother Pam, in other words, an amazing woman who has taken me under her wing and adopted me outside of the legal system. There is a strong connection between these two people- more than I could begin to explain. To make it simple, let's just say that both of them have treated me like family and taken me under their wings. Through my extensive traveling and musical ambitions they have given me places that feel like home- not only a roof over my head, but the feeling of family. One lives in Virginia and another in Jersey- still much closer than my immediate family in Florida, that is, if you consider physical distance a factor.
So back to the card isle- I'm standing there reading through every card I see and a butterfly catches my eye. The card reads: "Thank you, not only for the special thing you did, but for being the special kind of person to think of doing it." I sort of froze for a moment, feeling a strong emotional connection to these words and a certain magic in butterfly wings. It had been quite some time since I'd spoken to Eric and I felt more connected to him than ever. I picked up two of these cards, along with selective others for close friends. One reads: "May your day be brightened by the loving thoughts this brings, and may the angels brush away your cares with gentle wings..."Another reads: "Whenever I think of you, you feel close by... No matter where you are." I was tearing up with emotions when I found the right card for my friend Mark, who's father just passed away. This card reads: "To remember is another way to love. Every time you recall your dad's laughter, every time you find yourself doing something he taught you or repeating something he used to say... every time you think of him, you bring your dad closer to your heart."
Not until today did I discover the strong connection between these cards... between all of these people. This morning I read on facebook Eric's post stating "My daddy took the train to heaven at 9:30pm last night." Over 54 people had already commented and I did the same, then took the initiative to call him. We had a very deep conversation and he expressed something incredible. He had spent the last few days with his father, and during that time they had listened to my music. His father was fascinated by it. Yesterday Eric wanted so badly to go see his dad again but he couldn't make it. Still, he remembered telling his dad this: "if I can't make it back to see you, please visit me on the porch before you go."
This morning: cup of coffee in hand, birds of Floyd, VA singing on the horizon and there sits Eric on his front porch. He had received the call from his sister and was taking in the news- breathing in oxygen, song of life surrounding. A butterfly fluttered to him- peacefully embraced the wooden porch fence, settling in its' orange blossom colors to enhance the grass and trees among him. Eric felt a cool breeze, saw the vibrance of butterfly wings resonate with the rhythm of the wind. He remembered telling his father to come see him on the porch before he goes... felt the connection of energy embrace that moment. And the orange wings fluttered away... into the sky, to the sunlight, among the air of peace. "When you loose someone close to you a piece of them always stays in your heart. But a piece of you always goes with them." His smile lifted to the sky like the wings of the butterfly- closed his eyes, lashes fluttering, breeze passing through him.
I was in tears to hear this story today. "Eric, I got you a card yesterday. It has an orange butterfly on the front of it. When I saw it I immediately thought of you and knew it was exactly the card I was looking for. I held it in my hands for quite sometime and felt a strong connection to you... to the feeling of family... father.. mother... home... friends. And that peace- that love- that feeling of home- we always keep it close. Your father is still here in our hearts."
I made several phone calls today just to say "I love you." This wasn't because of the situation, but just because. For we should never need a reason to be expressive and share the beauty of life with others.
So embrace the moment. Share a smile with someone you love. Believe in connection. It's a small world and we're all under one sun- inhaling a breath of peace, feeling the warmth of life fill our souls. Let it in, share it, be it.
